CHONGQING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Several people attending a concert by popular singer Faye Wong on Friday evening in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality were injured when their seating caved in.
The collapse happened at around 8:10 p.m. as the audience were entering the Olympic Sports Center. The seats that collapsed were supported by metal scaffolding up to 1.5 meters in height.
The concert was suspended, and will take place Sunday evening, according to its organizing committee.
The injured, most of whom sustained trauma to their feet or heads, were rushed to local hospitals while the center was evacuated of the rest of the audience.
Although the exact number of the injured could not be ascertained immediately due to the chaos at the scene, a wounded audience member receiving treatment at the No. 1 Hospital told Xinhua that at least 11 people were sent to the hospital along with him.
Faye Wong, using the screen name "veggieg," apologized for the accident on Sina Weibo, China's popular Twitter-like microblogging service.
