SW China landslide kills 2, threatens school

CHONGQING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- A landslide killed two people in a southwest China village on Friday morning, prompting authorities to suspend classes at a nearby elementary school and prepare to relocate residents out of the hazardous area, local officials said.
The landslide toppled a half-finished house in Liangquan village near the city of Chongqingg, leaving two people dead and two others wounded. The local government ordered an elementary school in the nearby town of Huangjin to immediately suspend classes and demanded enhanced surveillance to monitor follow-up geological disasters.
Officials are also preparing to temporarily relocate residents in the mountainous area where the landslide occurred, they said.
