ISLAMABAD, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Thailand cueist Thepchaiya Un Nooh won the Seven-Nation International Snooker Tournament Friday evening, beating amateur world champion Hossein Vafaei Ayouri of Iran in the final in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi.
When Thepchaiya, 26, conceded opening four games of the final, viewers started to believe that the event's top-seeded Ayouri would definitely pocket the trophy. But then some miraculous game show started in 5th frame by Thepchaiya who finally won the best-of-13 encounter by a close margin of 7-6.p Thepchaiya won the fifth and sixth frames to make it 4-2 at the break. The game luck slipped towards Thai player after he had made the game almost balanced by making it 6-5 before the final's 12th frame.
Ayouri, who was suffering some stomach problem, could not concentrate on his game and missed many easy shots and finally he had to pay for those mistakes.
The young Thepchaiya kept himself cool with solid nerves and availed opportunities which finally led him to be the champion by closing the game with the break of 92 in 13th frame.
Thepchaiya was given trophy and a cash prize of $2,000, while runner-up Ayouri pursed $1,000.
Pakistan's top-seed Mohammad Asif collected $100 for making the highest break of the tournament of 136 during his semi-final loss to Thepchaiya.
Thepchaiya was happy after defeating the amateur world champion.
"I'm really happy after this victory," Thepchaiya told local media while adding "It was a really good experience for me in Pakistan, the hospitality, food and atmosphere were great for me."
Tournament runner-up Ayouri admitted that he could not perform according to his game, talent and abilities.
"I was suffering food poisoning and could not play better, Thepchaiya played really well and win the championship," said Ayouri.
The tournament was one of the best events planned to be held in Pakistan this year. Almost 20 players from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, India, Bahrain, Thailand and Pakistan participated in the championship.
Pakistan's two players, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad succeeded to qualify for the final four but lost their semifinals against visitors.
