BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong director Andrew Lau's wuxia film "The Guillotines" is set to hit cinemas in China on December 20, Mtime.com reports.
The action thriller will go up against Wong Kar Wai's "The Grandmaster" and Jackie Chan's "CZ12" in an effort to gain a slice of the domestic market during the New Year period.
The film tells of a covert group of assassins called The Guillotines that work for Emperor Qianlong, carrying out his secret missions.
It stars a group of Asian up-and-comers including Huang Xiaoming, Ethan Juan, Shawn Yue, Li Yuchun and Boran Jing.
Produced by Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Ho-Sun Chan, "The Guillotines" received investment to the sum of 15 million U.S. dollars.
In the international market, the film has already been snapped up by distributors in several major territories in Asia, North America and Europe.
