PARIS, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Socialist frontrunner Francois Hollande has won the French presidential election, beating the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday's final polling, local TV channel France 2 reported citing exit polls.
Hollande won 51.9 percent of all votes, the TV channel said.
The latest estimates have been in line with all opinion polls during the election campaign. Thousands of Socialists are celebrating in high spirit at the Bastille Square, while Hollande's son Thomas is being surrounded by enthusiastic friends as shown in TV footage.
