After acquiring "Beasts of the Southern Wild" at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Fox Searchlight debuts a first trailer for the well-reviewed movie. Showcasing beautiful cinematography, the video explores the life in a poverty-ridden bayou community. The events happening in the culturally rich society are presented from the perspective of an adventurous little girl named Hushpuppy.
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" follows a six-year-old girl who lives in a "forgotten" Louisiana bayou community with her father. The little girl aims to find her lost mother after a fierce storm wreaks havoc on her world. After being premiered at Sundance, the film was praised for using a heavy doze of magical realism in telling its story.
The drama, which won the Grand Jury prize at the prestigious film festival, is directed by Benh Zeitlin who also pens the highly praised script along with Lucy Alibar. Starring as Hushpupy is a nonprofessional actor Quvenzhane Wallis, while Dwight Henry plays her father. The movie will open in the U.S. on June 27.
